Cop suspended on fake passport issue

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Sept. 4. An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Begumpet police station, P. Chandrashekhar, was suspended on the charge of dereliction of duty while conducting passport application verification of Mohd. Osman, who was arrested by the Bangalore police in connection with the Mumbai blasts. Enquiries revealed that Mohd. Osman of Noorsha colony in Bandlaguda applied for passport on the fictitious name of Mohd.

Faheem in 1997, an official press release said.

He also gave a false address with H.No. 18-3-342/1, Chowni Gulam Murtuza in Falaknuma.

Mr. Chandrashekhar, who was then working as a Head Constable of the Special Branch covering Chatrinaka police station area, submitted a clearance report on June 16, 1997, "without actually verifying the particulars and genuineness of documents,'' the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, M.V. Krishna Rao, stated.

This helped Mohd. Osman obtain a passport with a fake name and address.
