Adhikary outwits Irving

MUMBAI Sept. 6. Local favourite San Jose defeated Polish challenger Lukasz to steer clear of the field and head the table in the World Junior chess championship for the visually impaired on Saturday, according to information from the All India Chess Association for the Blind. Indian National champion, Laxminarayan Adhikary, was also among the victors with a sensational 13th move checkmate of Englishman Irving. The Bengal player now has three points from five matches and is in the reckoning for a place among medallists if he continues in the same vein.

India's other entry, Kalishekhar lost to Dalle from Belarus in 57 moves and now has two points. The two-member Indian team is sponsored by GTL Limited.
