Govt. for gradual switch-over to e-governance

NEW DELHI SEPT. 6 . An apex body of the consultative machinery of the Central Government employees, National Council, today decided to make concerted efforts through mutual discussions to bring in the highest level of efficiency in the Government sector to "transform it into a modern, professional and responsive machinery which is capable of ensuring quick and efficient delivery of public service."

At a meeting of the Council, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, Kamal Pande, issues pertaining to the 30-lakh Central Government employees were discussed to find an amicable solution and ensure harmonious relations, a press release issued from the Cabinet Secretariat said.

The Central Government employees' representatives and Secretaries from various Ministries attended the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Pande said that in its continuing attempt to provide good governance, the Government was contemplating a series of administrative reforms, which would smoothen the interface between the Government machinery and the public.

These reforms would include new initiatives to make the administration more efficient, transparent, citizen-friendly and accountable. There would be a gradual switchover to e-governance. A fresh round of simplification of rules, regulations and procedures was on the anvil.

These steps were being taken to fulfil the growing aspirations of democratically-governed people and to meet the meet the new challenges posed by the imperatives of globalisation.

Training programmes would be organised to help the Central Government employees to acquire new skills and upgrade existing competencies.
