Shivika takes title

KOLKATA SEPT. 6. Shivika Burman's three months stint in the USA seemed to have done a great deal of good to her game. The Kolkatan walked away with the girls' under-14 title beating top seed Varsha Datta of Assam in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the Nike junior tennis Tour at the Bengal Tennis Academy complex here on Saturday.

The boys' under-14 crown went to second seed G.P. Prajnesh of Tamil Nadu. He beat top seed B. Navneetha Kannan in three tough sets. The first set went to Kannan at 7-5. The next two sets were taken by Prajnesh 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier in the morning, Prajnesh had reached the final by defeating fourth seed Arijit Goswami 6-4, 6-2. The boys' under-12 event was one sided. M.A. Navin of Tamil Nadu took the crown beating Siddhartha Gulgule of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-3.

Top seed Ridhima Barooah of Assam lost to fourth seed Kolkatan Danielle Jones in the girls' under-12 final. Danielle won 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
