`CBI seeking to probe Ministry clearance for Taj project'

CHENNAI SEPT. 6. The Janata party president, Subramanian Swamy, today said that the Central Bureau of Investigation had written to the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, seeking his consent to inquire into the Union Environment Ministry's clearance for the Taj corridor project.

The project proposal, which recently brought down the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh, was cleared by the Environment Ministry and the same was intimated to the State Government, he told presspersons here. However, the Prime Minister was yet to give his consent, Dr. Swamy added.
