Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to the ASI finding in Ayodhya( Aug. 26 ) and the historians' views disputing it( Aug. 30 ). I do not know what purpose such findings serve. If the report convinces the judiciary and the people that the Ram temple existed at the disputed site, will it justify the demolition of the Babri Masjid? And if indeed Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Rama, it needs no concrete evidence. I do not think even Muslims dispute the belief. If Muslim invaders destroyed temples to build mosques, it is wrong. But a historical wrong cannot be corrected by another wrong.
