No Onam in Marad

KOZHIKODE Sept. 8. The residents of violence-ravaged Marad who are still benumbed by grief at the loss of eight members of their community in a brutal massacre on May 2 spent the Onam day today praying for the victims of the tragedy.

Similar programmes were also organised at the Vellayil beach. The BMS all-India working president, R.Venugopal, and the Araya Samajam secretary, T. Suresh, participated in the mass prayers for the `martyrs' at Marad.

A resident in Marad said `there is no Onam for us in Marad today'.

In Vellayil beach where also mass prayers were held, the head of the Kolathur Asram, Swami Chithanandapuri, the RSS State joint secretary, P. Gopalankutty Master, and the Hindu Aikya Vedi district secretary, P. K. Sahadevan, spoke.
