Sir, I found Timeri Murari's article `Falling in love' ( Sept. 8 ) refreshing. As an India-born U.S. citizen, I have grown accustomed to and accepted the vastly different views with regard to love and marriage in India. While parents and relatives of lovers are entitled to their opinions, I find it disheartening that the Government plays an active role in dissuading love between two people. Should it not concentrate on pressing issues such as raising the literacy rate, improving basic sanitation and controlling the population? Jamil Batcha, Maryland, U.S.
