The seven areas identified for cooperation are: the next-generation mobile communications, the next-generation internet, digital television and broadcasting services, open-source software, network and information security (systems), telecom service policies and the IT aspects of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A business forum, held on the sidelines of the ministerial conference, explored ways of conducting joint R&D activities in these seven areas and also steps to undertake joint industrialisation and standardisation projects in these spheres. The prime accent at both the ministerial conference and the business forum was on evolving win-win strategies of benefit to all the three countries. The conference was attended by Japan's Telecommunications Minister, Toranosuke Katayama, China's Information Industry Minister, Wang Xudong and the South Korean Information and Communication Minister, Chin Dae-je. The three Ministers signed an "arrangement'' accord to constitute a working-level panel to fashion the requisite formula for trilateral cooperation as regards the seven IT sectors. The `arrangement' is to remain effective until end of 2008, a timeline that would fully cover the prospective Beijing Olympics.
