Anju gets additional assistance

NEW DELHI SEPT. 9. Anju B. George, who won the country's first ever medal at the World athletics championships in Paris recently, has been granted an additional financial assistance of Rs. 1.79 lakhs by the Union Sports Ministry for participation in the World Athletics Finals in Monaco.

The meet is to be held in Monaco on September 13 and 14, with Anju's event, the long jump, being scheduled on the second day.

The ministry stated in a press release on Tuesday that an assistance to the tune of Rs. 12 lakhs was sanctioned to Anju in April this year for her training under World record-holder Mike Powell in the U.S. under the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) scheme.
