HC judge must probe payment for NoC: Cong.

By Our Staff Reporter

DINDIGUL SEPT. 9. The TNCC State president, S. Balakrishnan, today sought a probe by a commission headed by a High Court judge into the alleged payment of Rs.65 lakhs for getting a no-objection certificate for a teacher training college. The working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, urged the Government to take action against all persons involved in the scandal.

Addressing a joint press meet here, Mr. Balakrishnan said a committee headed by him had recommended recruitment of 28,000 teachers during the DMK regime and the AIADMK Government implemented its recommendations. There was no need for new colleges, as the Government could not provide jobs to candidates passing out of the existing institutions every year. Mr. Elangovan said action must be taken against persons involved, even it was the Education Minister S. Semmalai. "I had told that there was rampant corruption in the issue of no-objection certificate to teacher training colleges. Now, the High Court has given a direction".

Both the leaders criticised the Chief Minister visiting Udhagamandalam when the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit Chennai. A conducive relationship between the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister was essential for getting welfare schemes for the State.

On electoral alliance for the Lok Sabha polls, the high command would take a decision at an appropriate time. On whether the Congress would align with the DMK, Mr. Elangovan said the Congress had been making a common cause with the DMK on many issues. But that did not mean that the parties would have an alliance. However, only the high command could take a decision on this.

Mr. Balakrishnan ruled out any change in leadership in the State Congress. "I understand that some district presidents did not evince interest in membership registration. If they did not cooperate, an alternate arrangement would be made."
