Uttar Pradesh
Addressing the workers at the party office here, Mr. Yadav said the new government was facing a great challenge as it had inherited a financial crisis from the outgoing government. He appealed to party workers to strengthen the party at the grassroots so that it not only lasts for the remaining three-and-a-half years but also comes back in power for another term. Samajwadi Party should be a model government not only in Uttar Pradesh but also at the national level, he told the workers. He said his government would work for the all round development of the people in the State. "My government would not work on the lines of religion, caste or communal considerations," he declared. The Former Union Defence Minister said he would not tolerate any corruption in the state and asked the people to point out immediately if they notice any corruption or malpractices by bureaucrats or politicians. "Law will take its own course," he said adding that "in democracy law is equal to all." He appealed to the younger generation to come forward and assist the government in executing the plans and policies for the development of all sections of the people. The Chief Minister said as people had expressed satisfaction with the establishment of a new government in the state, it is the duty of the government to fulfil their aspirations. He declared that within six months he will set the things on the right track with active cooperation and participation of the public. Mr. Yadav also appealed to the workers to be "non-violent and disciplined". "I want my partymen to act in a non-violent manner as violence cannot solve any problem. It only leads to hatred and communal tensions in the State." The SP leader said his party enjoys the support of the people who expect good governance from it after having tolerated the misrule and torture of the previous government. "For that (good governance) we want cooperation of all sections of the people," he added. Mr. Yadav said to strengthen its roots, the party would organise meetings and seminars and explain its plans and policies to its workers. Earlier, SP national general secretary and MP Amar Singh asked the workers to go to villages and work for the unity and integrity of the party. "After a long wait and struggle, the party has come to power and now the people should allow the leaders to work," he said. ``The newly-formed government has already announced several plans and policies for the benefit of the poeple and it is time to work on them,'' he added. -- UNI
