August 5, 1999: Case registered in Begum Bazar based on a complaint by Vysya Bank Managar, who suspected that stamps supplied by M/s Venkateshwara Enterprises were fake. August 12, 1999: 28 accused arrested. August 13, 1999: Abdul Kareem Telgi and 18 others arrested. Telgi revealed that he received stamps from one Ashish Chakravari of Kolkata. August 18 to 23, 1999: Telgi taken on police remand to Mumbai for investigating into some leads and to Calcutta in search of Chakravarti, who, however, absconded. Telgi was released on bail on High Court's orders on September 29. December 17, 1999: Cases handed over to CBCID's J. J. Das for investigation. April 28, 2000: Ashish Chakravarti surrendered in Court. Taken on police remand but denied involvement in case. December 6, 2000: Seized stamps sent to India Security Press for expert opinion. April 30, 2002: ISP took its own time - 15 months - to give expert opinion after a lot of correspondence. August 31, 2002: Final investigation submitted by investigating officer. November 22, 2002: File returned to investigating officer as there were several gaps in evidence collected and analysis against the accused. July 17, 2003: Revised report submitted by officer. August 12, 2003: One more person nabbed taking total arrests to 41. September 6, 2003: Krishna Yadav arrested by Maharashtra police. Another case was registered against in IV Town police station in Visakhapatnam and stamps worth Rs. 5.56 crores were seized.
