They pushed the rowers from Chengalam Youth Club on Sri Ganesh to the second position. C.F. Thomas, Minister for Rural Development, inaugurated the boat race, being organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council and the Virippukala S.N. Boat Club. K. Suresh Kurup, MP, inaugurated a public meeting organised in connection with the boat race. Thomas Chazhikkadan MLA, the club president, K.K. Sisupalan, and others spoke on the occasion. The other winners are: Iruttukuthi: Thuruthuthara with oarsmen from Netaji Boat Club. They defeated members of Navodaya Boat Club who fielded Valia Ayyappan. Iruttukuthi Grade II: Valia Pandithan fielded by Amrutha Boat Club, South Paravoor; Veppu Gr.I: Patteripurackel (Varambinakom Boat Club); Churulan Gr. II: Kodimatha (Nashananthra Boat club); Churulan Gr.II: Daayi No.II (Friends Boat Club) and Kovallam: Kaamichery (Kollakari Boat Club). In all, 34 boats participated in this year's competitions. The District Superintendent of Police, S. Gopinath, gave away the trophies.
