There was quite a big crowd at the station to purchase tickets. The irate commuters who had approached the station master was informed that the entire staff had gone out for a Onam get-together to a nearby hotel. Even the STD booth on the platform remained closed. Tickets are to be issued one hour before the arrival of the train. This did not commence even after the arrival of the train, the passengers alleged. When the commuters became restless, the station master himself issued the tickets and the train left 30 minutes behind time. When contacted, the station master, Thomas, said that he had issued the tickets since the other staff members had gone for a get-together. He said the cause of the delay in the departure of the train was a crossing and not on account of the delay in issuing tickets.
