HC directive on cinema hall dispute

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI SEPT. 9. The Delhi High Court has asked Aggarwal & Modi Enterprises, owners of Chanakya cinema hall here, and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to provide details of the lease agreement under which the NDMC had leased out the complex.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice B.C. Patel and Justice A.K. Sikri passed the direction on a petition by the owners of the hall challenging a judgment by a single-judge bench of the High Court asking them to vacate the building by September 15.

Rejecting a petition by Aggarwal and Modi Enterprises challenging the NDMC's decision not to renew their lease agreement, the single-judge Bench had last month asked them to vacate the hall by September 30.

The NDMC wants to develop the building as a market complex to earn more revenue "as the earning from the leasing was only Rs. 1.26 lakhs per month".
