The KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, is set to flag off the campaign tour at Eloor in the evening. The Muslim League leader and PWD Minister, M. K. Muneer, will speak at the meeting. The two would also address another campaign meeting in the city. The boycott is part of the `I' Group's decision to keep off the electioneering efforts until its leader, K. Karunakaran, takes a final decision on supporting the UDF candidate, M. O. John. The group's Assembly-segment-level meetings, held on Tuesday, had decided that until Mr. Karunakaran himself set out on electioneering or asked his supporters to campaign for Mr. John, the cadres would not participate in any electioneering effort. Meetings of important `I' Group workers were held in six of the seven Assembly segments in the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency today. Block and mandalam functionaries, booth presidents and Assembly constituency leaders attended these meetings. P. C. Chacko, N. Venugopal, Mohammedkutty Master, K. P. Haridas, Premachandran and Vinod T. J. addressed these meetings. The meetings decided to hold mandalam-level group conventions on September 11and 12. Five representatives from each booth would attend the conventions. Group sources pointed out that Mr. Karunakaran had stated that he was not going to be associated with the Ernakulam electioneering. His loyalists would not `move a finger' for the electioneering efforts until Mr. Karunakaran wanted them to. Meanwhile, `I' Group cadres took out a march in the city to condemn the alleged derogatory remarks by the Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas against Mr. Karunakaran.
