No truth in eve-teasing charge: painter's wife

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI SEPT. 9. Two days after a painter "fell to death" from the Saravana Stores on Ranganathan Street in T.Nagar, his wife today said her husband had gone to the store only to exchange a pair of slippers that he had purchased the previous day. "There is no truth in the complaint that he had indulged in eve-teasing", Kanaga Durga, wife of Ganesan, said.

Kanaga Durga, who had come to the mortuary of the Chennai Government Hospital this afternoon, along with her two children — Vasudevan and Yashika, to receive her husband's body after post-mortem, recalled that on Saturday, he had bought a pair of slippers. "As they had some defects, he told me that he would visit the shop on Sunday evening to exchange it for a new pair", she said.

Ganesan's friends and relatives described him as a docile and a friendly person. "It is impossible that a person like him could have indulged in misbehaviour with women", one of his brother-in laws said. They alleged that salespersons at the store had an altercation, and appealed to any witnesses to the incident to give evidence in the matter.

The post-mortem was videographed. Police said there was no further progress to the investigation and said that only after the report of the post-mortem was available could they conduct further investigations. The body was handed over to his relatives.
