Well-placed sources told The Hindu that based on the input an operation was launched early this morning to nab the militant. As the forces approached the militant, he lobbed six grenades. But the grenades did not cause any damage. The militant was finally killed and was identified as a Pakistan national, Mohammad Shumit of the Hizb-ul Mujhaideen. One AK-47 rifle was recovered. "We believe this militant to be among the seven militants who encountered the security forces in the Ghati forests," a senior police officer said. Search for the other militants was continuing in various parts of Kathua, he added.
