`Press demand for SC Bench'

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Sept. 11. The president of the Vokkaligara Sangha and noted economist, K. Venkatagiri Gowda, has urged the Government to press for the setting up of a Bench of the Supreme Court in Bangalore besides that of the Karnataka High Court in North Karnataka. In a letter to the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, Dr. Venkatagiri Gowda, who is a former MP, has said that the establishment of the High Court Bench will give the impetus for the setting up of the Supreme Court Bench in Bangalore. Mr. Krishna should convince the Chief Justice of the High Court, N.K. Jain, about the need for the Bench in North Karnataka. He has reminded Mr. Krishna about the political benefit to accrue to the Congress and himself by meeting the aspirations of the people of North Karnataka. Dr. Gowda has noted that he pleaded for both Benches in a book he wrote in 1988, Perestroika and Glasnost.
