Banking on reforms

Sir, — Apropos your editorial, "Banking turnaround" ( Sept. 11 ), the public sector banks are left with no choice but to go in for technology upgradation, mergers, closure of loss-making branches and recruitment of youngsters to man the counters. Most of the existing staff are unable to overcome their lethargic mindset acquired over the past two to three decades.

S. Muralidharan,

Chennai
