Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to "Government cracks the whip on muttah weddings" ( Sept. 11 ). The Government has taken the right decision in instructing the embassies in New Delhi, and the Indian embassies abroad, to discourage "muttah" (short-term) marriages indulged in by foreign tourists with Indian Muslim women. I hope the Indian Ulema, hitherto silent observers of this unhealthy practice, will approve of the move. V.M. Khaleelur Rahman, Ambur, T.N.
