Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
The Kerala edition of The Hindu will have a new weekly column, a forum for readers, featuring their opinions on issues of contemporary relevance. It will be titled `Peoplespeak'. The first in the series will be published on Saturday, September 20. The issue for the coming week is the enforcement of helmet-wearing by two-wheeler riders, a step which has invited both bouquets and brickbats. While medical professionals and agencies in charge of road safety have welcomed the measure, a sizeable section of two-wheeler riders have opposed it for various reasons. Should helmet-wearing be imposed by fiat, or should personal safety be left to individual choice? Please send your responses, to a maximum length of 300 words, marked `Peoplespeak', by post, by e-mail or by hand so as to reach us not later than September 17. The postal address is The Hindu, Vallakadavu, Thiruvananthapuram 695 008. Responses by e-mail (in plain text format) may be sent to `wstvm@thehindu.co.in'.
