Rupee slumps to 45.81 against dollar

MUMBAI SEPT. 12. The Indian rupee slumped against the U.S. currency on Friday on a fresh round of heavy dollar shortcovering and halted a six-session string of rallies that took it to 3-year peaks in volatile trade at the inter-bank foreign exchange market. Ending at 45.80/81 a dollar, the rupee lost nearly ten paise from Thursday's finish of 45.7050/7150 a dollar after dipping to intraday lows of 45.82/83 a dollar minutes before the closing bell.

It opened at 45.71/72 a dollar. — PTI
