32 sarpanches stripped of cheque powers

By Our Correspondent

CHITTOOR SEPT. 12. The cheque powers of 32 sarpanches have been cancelled due to functioning contrary to Government rules. Departmental action has been initiated against the sarpanches for having failed to implement village sanitation programmes.

The Government had recently implemented several programmes for village development besides releasing funds. Some sarpanches have not been showing interest towards implementation of such schemes. Many sarpanches in the district were ruling over the village secretaries and performing their duties as per their will and pleasure. The District Panchayat Officer has asked the subordinate officers to keep a watch on the work of sarpanches and village secretaries.
