Anantapur wakes up to parties' campaigns

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR SEPT. 12. The district has come alive with leaders of political parties touching every nook and corner with their mass-contact programmes. While the Congress launched its Jan Jagaran Abhiyan last week, the TDP's Intintiki Telugu Desam and CPI's padayatras commenced today.

All important leaders of the three parties are participating in the mass-contact exercise. The Congress has been conducting protest programmes in front of Government offices, highlighting the failures of the State and Central Governments.

The ruling TDP has got down to door-to-door campaign and the CPI has taken up padayatras demanding drinking water, irrigation, drought relief measures and waiver of loans of farmers.

A jatha led by the district secretary of the party, M.V. Ramana, launched its padayatra from the site where the foundation stone was laid for Handri-Neeva project at Uravakonda today.

The TDP leaders and workers were seen visiting houses to find out whether the welfare schemes were reaching the beneficiaries and also to find out their political leanings.

The CPI has planned to cover about 300 villages in the district to learn the problems of the people in the wake of the fourth consecutive year of drought. The party leaders have taken up the task of awakening the people to question the Government on their needs.
