By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY Sept.12. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, today appealed to filmmakers to choose subjects that will be instrumental in creating an attitudinal change among the masses. "You must produce films that are useful to society in one way or the other."

Speaking at the inaugural of a three-day festival of Indian films `Indian Panorama - 2003' at the Muruga theatre here, Mr. Rangasamy said film festivals offered a chance for the public to view award-winning films.

Mr. Rangasamy, who also gave away the Sankaradas Swamigal award for the Tamil film `Kannathil Muthamittal' to its director, Manirathnam, urged the Tamil film industry to come to Pondicherry to make films.

The single window system introduced by the Government made easy the shooting of films. He also presented a cash award of Rs. 10,000 to the director.

Mr. Manirathnam said this was the first time that he had in person received an award for Kannathil Muthamittal, which bagged 6 awards so far. He thanked Pondicherrians for providing every facility to shoot the film.
