TRS slams Govt. for releasing water to Krishna delta

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Sept. 12. The State Government's decision to release more water to Krishna delta has evoked strong criticism from the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) which alleged that the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, had deprived water to Telangana to serve the interests of farmers from the Andhra region.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the TRS president, K Chandrasekhar Rao, said that the Chief Minister succumbed to the pressure mounted by the Andhra leaders and agreed to release water to Krishna delta at the expense of farmers under the Nagarjunasagar project ayacut. The leaders of different political parties in Rayalaseema and Andhra regions were fighting for their regions unitedly, while there was no such unity among the Telangana politicians.

In this context, he recalled the promise made by the Chief Minister and Panchayat Raj Minister, N Janardhan Reddy, on release of water to 87,000 acres in Mahabubnagar district when the TRS launched a padayatra on the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme controversy. The Telangana leaders of different parties should at least now realise the injustice being meted out to Telangana farmers and join the struggle for the cause of the people.

Mr Rao also criticised the CLP leader, Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, stating that the Opposition leader was speaking about release of water to Andhra and Rayalaseema regions but was not concerned about the Telangana farmers. "Unfortunately, we have to put up with such a partisan Opposition leader till the next elections,'' he said.

Asked about the floor coordination among the Opposition parties in the forthcoming Assembly session, he said that the TRS would cooperate with other parties on all common issues.
