Speaking at a function after laying the foundation for the block education office here on Friday, he emphasised the need to simplify the education system by laying more stress on imparting training in fine arts. He said that the Government would make it compulsory for teachers to get trained in fine arts from the next year. The Minister noted that government buildings should be constructed more attractively as was being done in Kerala. He promised to release Rs. 8 lakh for the construction of classrooms at the Government Girls' Pre-University College, and financial assistance to take up repair work on the 150-year-old Main Middle School building. Prof. Chandrashekar said the attendance in government primary schools had improved after the Akshara Dasoha scheme was launched by the Government. The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankaramurthy, said the 150th anniversary of the Main Middle School would be celebrated in a befitting manner. H.M. Chanadrasekharappa, MLA, presided over the function. The Deputy Director of Public Instruction, A. Devaprakash, welcomed the gathering. The Block Education Officer, G.P. Chandramma, proposed a vote of thanks. The Chairman of the Standing Committee for Social Justice of the zilla panchayat, Shantaveer Naik, and Bhanu Prakash, zilla panchayat member, were present.
