`Preventive healthcare poor'

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE Sept. 12. The Chairman of the Revenue Reforms Commission and former Chief Minister, M. Veerappa Moily, has called for strengthening preventive healthcare in rural areas. Inaugurating a seminar on health organised by the commission here, he said that though preventive healthcare was an essential part of primary healthcare, it had been neglected. The state of primary healthcare for the urban poor was no better, he said, and stressed the need for improving the quality of the healthcare system in government hospitals. The one-day seminar, the fourth in a series, discussed user charges for healthcare, public health, nutrition, water supply and sanitation, and population control strategies.
