In Bidar district, a farmer consumed poison in Dadagi in Bhalki taluk reportedly because he could not repay the money he borrowed from moneylenders. Subhash (45) reportedly consumed poison in his house on Friday morning. He owned one acre of land. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter. A case has been registered at the Khatak Chincholi police station. Prakash Khandre, MLA, who visited the village, demanded that the Government release Rs. 25,000 to his family immediately, as per the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna's directive. Our Hassan Staff Correspondent writes: A farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at Karigowdanakopplu in Doddamagge hobli of Arkalgud taluk in Hassan district on Friday, reportedly because he was unable to repay a moneylender. The dead has identified as Shekara (28), son of Kari Gowda. He is survived by his wife and two children. According to Konanur police, who have registered a case, Shekara, who owned 1.5 acres of land, had taken a loan of Rs. 30,000 from moneylender. Our Raichur Correspondent reports: Sharanappa Gubbi (45) from Tawargera village in Koppal district reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his house on Friday. It was said that he borrowed Rs. 80,000 from a bank and from moneylenders, and could not repay the money following crop failure for the past two years in the wake of drought. Tawargera Police have registered a case. Our Mysore Staff Correspondent writes: A farmer in Mandya district reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house on Thursday night. According to police, Bhaskar (45) committed suicide at Dananayakanahalli village in Kirgavul police limits. Police said he had availed of a loan of Rs. 15,000 from the farmers' cooperative bank, Rs. 30,000 from the State Bank of India, and Rs. 15,000 from Vijaya Bank. Bhaskar had 1.5 acres of land, and he reportedly committed suicide as he was unable to repay the loans because of the failure of crops in the past two years. Senior officials of the district administration visited the village. Kirgavul police have registered a case. Our Bijapur Staff Correspondent reports: Ragappa Mallappa Pujar, a farmer in Kambagi village in Bijapur taluk, committed suicide on Thursday by consuming poison. Police said he had taken a crop loan of Rs. 20,000 from the Bijapur Primary Land Development Bank. As Pujar failed to repay the loan, the bank authorities reportedly auctioned his land.
