Of the 175 taluks in the State, rainfall was normal in 30 taluks, moderately deficit in 16 taluks, severely deficit in 69 taluks, and no rainfall was recorded in 35 taluks, the report said. During the corresponding week last year, rainfall was excess in 42 taluks, normal in 37 taluks, and deficit to nil in 96 taluks, according to the report. During the period, Bangalore Urban, Belgaum, Haveri, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts recorded normal rainfall, the report said. The report added that 2.33 lakh hectares had been sown from September 1 to 8. The total area of land sown as on September 8 was 55.99 lakh hectares, which was 2.90 lakh hectares more than the land sown on the same date last year. Pulses, cereals, cash crops, and oilseeds had been sown in larger areas, the report said.
