`Bhagavad Gita, a unique cultural text'

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Sept. 13. Three keynote documents, Abhinava Gupta's "Gitartha Sangraha", Yamuna Muni's "Gitartha Sangraha", and "Verses for Gita Contemplation", which will be discussed at the Global Gita Conference to be held for three days from November 28 here, were released today.

Participating in a function organised by the International Gita Foundation at the Raj Bhavan to release the texts, the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, observed that the Bhagavad Gita was a unique cultural text studied by scholars and others. "It has been translated into numerous languages and subjected to a number of commentaries with differing perspectives," he added.

The former Chief Justice, M.N. Venkatachalaiah, said the edicts of the Gita were underlined by the essence of realisation of the self, and its duties and responsibilities.

S.K. Ramachandra Rao, scholar, said the Gita was a rare document, and even the Sanskrit poet, Ashwagosha, was of the opinion that it was the source material for Mahayana, an important Buddhist text.
