CJ's stress on mediation, conciliation

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL SEPT. 13. Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Devinder Gupta, has urged judicial officers and advocates to accord top priority to alternate dispute resolution methods such as mediation and conciliation and decrease the burden on courts.

Participating as chief guest at a function held to inaugurate the library donated by the A. Susheela Venkateswara Rao Trust here today, Justice Gupta said the courts were facing difficulty in disposing pending cases. It was better to settle the issues before they become a litigation, he said.

The mediation and conciliation concepts yielded positive results elsewhere in the world. "The same can be tried here to offer quick justice to the litigants,'' he pointed out.

The Chief Justice advised judicial officers to devote their time to expedite disposal of pending litigations and wanted them to work with the motto of speedy justice.

Mr. Gupta exhorted young advocates to equip themselves with the latest developments and judgments to become a successful lawyer. He appreciated the gesture of senior advocate, A. Venkateswara Rao, who donated Rs, 25 lakhs to the building and donated all his books to the library and wanted others to follow the same.

The trust set up on the name of Venkateswara Rao proposes to spread legal literacy and conduct seminars and lecture programmes for the benefit of poor and the upcoming advocates. A legal aid and counselling centre was also set up in the library premises.

High Court judges— C.Y. Somayajulu, T. Ch Surya Rao, and L. Narasimha Reddy, the District and Sessions judge, N.R.L. Nageswara Rao, the Bar Association president, P. Ram Gopal Rao and others were present.

Later, donor A. Venkateswara Rao and his wife, A. Susheela were felicitated by the Bar Association members and judicial officers.
