Information that special investigation teams from Maharashtra had reached Warangal and West Godavari districts sent senior police officials and mediapersons there into a tizzy. But, the SIT officials now camping in Hyderabad made no such visits to these places. Senior police officials went into a huddle to discuss the situation and took pains to emphasise that they possessed no information that SIT officials were planning any more arrests. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu, the officials are gearing up to prepare a dossier on the accumulation of wealth by C.Krishna Yadav, MLA, and his close associates. Meanwhile, the AICC secretary, V.Hanumantha Rao, alleged that the ruling TD was trying to put a lid on further investigations by mounting pressure on the Maharashtra police through the Central Government. Addressing a press conference, Mr.Rao said that the Chief Minister was using his leverage with the NDA Government to contain the damage done to his party. He further alleged that Mr.Naidu, now in Italy, was trying to prevail upon the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K.Advani, to prevent further arrests by the Maharashtra police.
MLA anguished
CHIRALA: Telugu Desam MLA Paleti Rama Rao has expressed anguish over reports of his alleged involvement in the stamp paper scam. Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he alleged that the charges against him were part of a conspiracy hatched by his adversaries to defame him. ``Like any other MLA, I know Krishna Yadav as my colleague and have no particular contact with him,'' he said. He said he studied medicine to serve the poor and was doing the same as an MLA. The kind of allegations made against him without basis had only served intentions of the opposition parties but he would come out unscathed, he added. WARANGAL: Rumours were afloat in the city on Friday about the possible arrest of an MLA from the district in connection with the stamp paper scam. As people started guessing who the legislator was, mediapersons made frantic attempts to establish contact with the person. There was also intense speculation about the visit of the SIT to Warangal. Speaking to The Hindu, the Major Irrigation minister, Kadiam Srihari, voiced anguish over the rumours about his party MLA. The Government Whip, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, said it was unfortunate that a public representative was deliberately being dragged into controversy. He blamed a section of press "which is overenthusiastic'. Meanwhile, another rumour was spread that the SIT officials visited the district unit office of a political party. But, neither the officials nor the political leaders confirmed these reports. ELURU: Three senior SIT officials reportedly visited Palacole on the second day of the arrest of the TDP legislator, Krishna Yadav. According to sources from intelligence agencies, the visit by the SIT officials was part of their bid to question the local MLA of the ruling TDP, Allu Venkata Satyanarayana, in connection with the case. However, the legislator was not available for them, it was said. What is intriguing was the visit by a batch of the CB-CID to the same place around the same period of the visit of their Maharashtra counterparts.
