At a hurriedly convened press conference on Saturday evening, the Minister said that though the water levels in the Nizamsagar reservoir was alarmingly low, it was decided to go ahead with release of water to protect the standing crop. For the next 10 days from Monday, the Revenue, Irrigation and Police departments had been directed to regulate water supply to agriculture fields. He said the present water levels in Nizamsagar was about 3.70 tmcft of which only 2.70 tmcft is available for irrigation purpose. He directed the district administration to constitute teams in all the mandals which are irrigated by the Nizamsagar water. He said this time about 55,000 acres of crop were sown in the Nizamsagar ayacut till Guthpa and there were also reports that another 15,000 acres had been brought under ID crop. Mr. Venkateswara Rao said that Bellal tank in Bodhan and Alisagar reservoir were full to the brim and there was no problem of drinking water supply to Bodhan and Nizamabad towns. He said arrangements were being made to regulate water supply so that the standing crops were protected for the next 45 days. He told the AP Transco officials that the next one month was crucial and directed them to stay at the headquarters. He said power would be supplied for nine hours without interruption in two spells through the district. To a question whether Singoor water would be released to supplement the inflows into Nizamsagar, he said the Government would study the situation.
Control room
Earlier, the District Collector, D.V.Raidu, addressing a press conference in his chambers said that a round-the-clock control room to monitor the power situation was opened in the Collectorate. The farmers, who have any grievance could contact phone numbers - 221966 and 231026. Similarly, the APTRANSCO has also opened control rooms in its circle and divisional office. The circle office at Nizamabad headed by the Superintendent Engineer, would be opened round-the-clock. The telephone numbers of the circle and divisional offices are as follows: Circle office, Nizamabad - 245001, Divisional office, Nizamabad - 245201, Divisional office, Kamareddy - 220484, Armoor Divisional office - 222453 and Banswada divisional office - 226518.
