Advani not visiting Parkal, Vizag

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM SEPT. 13. The proposed visit of the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, to Parkal in Warangal district to inaugurate a memorial for the people who sacrificed their lives in the Hyderabad liberation movement on Sept. 17, and to Visakhapatnam for inauguration of the Hindi Bhavan, stand cancelled.

Disclosing this to reporters here on Saturday, the Union Minister of State for Commerce, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, said that with the Prime Minister going on a foreign tour, the Deputy Prime Minister was expected to hold the fort in his absence in Delhi which resulted in cancellation of Mr. Advani's trip to the State. However, the day-long programmes at Parakal, where as many as 23 persons laid down their lives fighting the Rajakars, would go on, he said. This did not have anything to do with the seperate Telengana movements of the late Marri Channa Reddy, the Jai Andhra agitation or the Telengana Rashtra Samithi of Chandrasekhara Rao, he clarified.

The national flag would be hoisted during the celebrations according to the flag code, and this year it was decided that the State should organise the celebrations, he added.

On the fake stamp racket in which the former TDP Minister, Krishna Yadav, was allegedly involved, the Union Minister said that it was an old case and needed a deeper probe. The Centre was sharing information with the States concerned and the Home Secretary also had a meeting with the officials of the States affected by the scam.

Replying to questions, Mr. Vidyasagar Rao said that a separate cell was formed in the State to tackle ISI activity by identifying the people involved. Modern weapons were provided to police to curb terrorism, he said.

He pleaded ignorance on the stance of film actress, Vijayashanti, who was associated with the BJP, on separate Telangana.
