Minister lauds cataract-free scheme

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM Sept. 13. The Electricity Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, has said that the progress registered in the health sector through science and technology is not benefiting the common man to the desired extent.

He was addressing a gathering while distributing spectacles free of cost under the `cataract free district' scheme at Anchalumoodu here.

Mr. Sivadasan said that though service and hospitality are essential features of health service, unfortunately, both the aspects seem to be absent in the health service sector. In such a situation, the cataract-free scheme would stand out as a model, he said. The Minister wanted the scheme to be implemented with throughout the district.

Addressing the gathering, the District Collector, Rajan Khobragade, said that 80 per cent of those who were operated under the scheme had been totally cured of cataract. He said that the remaining 20 per cent would be given further treatment to try and cure them also. The Anchalumoodu Block Panchayat president, G. Suresh, presided over the function.
