Pondicherry

Replying to felicitations extended to him here today by the members of Association of Daily Wage paid workers in the Department of Forests for raising their wages since February last, he said that tourism was given priority and his ambition was to ensure that Pondicherry emerged a number one State. He said that a number of proposals for setting up big industries were in the pipeline. The Agriculture Minister, A. Namassivayam, said that a green and clean Pondicherry should be achieved early. The wages were raised for the workers from Rs 26 to Rs 132 a day in keeping with the promise given on the floor of the House. The interest of the workers would always gain priority of consideration, he assured.
