This was after applicants who came for the written test informed the police that the credibility of the firm, which had invited applications, was suspect. The police said that around 1,000 youths had turned up for the test, which was conducted at Mas Hotel, near the Ernakulam North Railway Station. The police detained the `owner' of the firm, Mohammed Ameen (45) of Taj Manzil, Muttapalam, Varkala, for questioning. Sources said that a Thiruvananthapuram-based `software firm' had invited applications for some posts from candidates who had passed, or were pursuing either B.Tech. or engineering diploma courses. The candidates were asked to report for a test in Kochi today and in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. Each candidate was asked to submit a demand draft for Rs. 100. The condition was that whoever scored more than 70 per cent marks in the test would get back the amount. The students smelt a rat and informed the police since the questions asked were very easy and none was there to supervise the test. The police said that the demand drafts were returned to the candidates.
