Addressing a public meeting in Akhnoor on Friday, the Mufti said that violence was not a solution to any problem and exhorted the people to face the challenges posed by forces bent on disrupting peace. "People of this State are fed up with violence and destruction. They want peace. So my Government is committed to fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of the people." While the Pakistan Army might have a vested interest in perpetuating Indo-Pak. tensions, the people there no longer wanted hostility between the two nations and were keen on promoting economic ties, he said. He expressed satisfaction over the improving relations between the two countries. "Although some hawks are still active to disrupt peace process, residents of both the neighbouring countries are yearning for peace," he said. Pointing towards the PDP Rajya Sabha MP, Trilok Singh Bajwa, who had visited Pakistan on goodwill mission, the Mufti said the Indian delegation interacted with the people of Pakistan who expressed their desire for restoring peace with India. "Both India and Pakistan can improve their economic conditions by strengthening their relations and starting trade and other commercial activities," he added.
