Prominent among those who attended the reception were: Lakshman Kadirgamar, the former Sri Lankan Foreign Minister and now Senior Adviser to the President, Soli Sorabjee, Attorney-General, R.K. Raghavan, former CBI Director, leading industrialists, including A. Sivasailam, M.V. Subbaiah and Venu Srinivasan, K.M. Mammen and some of the State's top political leaders, including G.K. Vasan and S. Ramadoss. The Law and Electricity Minister, D. Jayakumar, represented the State Government as the Minister-in-waiting. The Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, N. Ram, welcomed the Prime Minister and thanked him for sparing so much of time for The Hindu's 125th anniversary celebrations.
