ONGC meet on crisis management ends

VISAKHAPATNAM SEPT. 14. The two-day well control conference conducted by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) concluded here on Sunday with a call to put in place suitable systems to tackle emergency situations.

The conference, attended by several top officials of the company and its suppliers, reviewed in detail the crisis management strategies and resolved to periodically train employees on innovative techniques to maximise production and achieve zero accident rate.

The Crisis Management Team (CMT), set up at Rajahmundry in 1993, organised the conference and explained the maintenance and operational readiness of blow-out control equipment. The SIT Chief, K. Satyanarayana, said that they were organising mock drills on blow-out and fires and training the personnel under simulated conditions.

The discussions at the conference centred around emerging technologies in well-control methods, emergency response, challenges in deep water drilling, role of computers, developments in cementation techniques to minimise hazards and upgradation of equipment.

About 150 engineers and specialists from ONGC, Oil India Limited, several oil and gas companies participated in the discussions.

Prominent speakers at the conference included the ONGC Director (drilling), N. Lal, the Chief of Drilling Services, U.N. Bose, the Chief of Well Services, A.K. Hazarika, the Rajahmundry unit Asset Manager, C. Lal, and the Oil Industry Safety Directorate Executive Director, P.V.R. Ayyar.
