Speaking after inaugurating the premises for the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology on Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) campus here on Saturday, he said that the funding would depend extensively on the varsity's performance on research front, as part of the new yardstick proposed. According to him, universities would be classified into remote area, new and expert for performance appraisal as well as funding purposes. The universities tagged `expert' for their performance would be provided a whopping Rs. 30-crore flat, while the new and remote area ones would get Rs. 65 lakhs and 35 lakhs respectively. Similarly, colleges in a university area would be classified and the best performer could get up to Rs.1 crore. Expressing concern over the gross underutilisation of technology, he felt that academicians were using the Internet just for e-mail purpose, while they were supposed to browse the web to download useful information from around the globe to be shared with students. An Internet literacy course would be run for teachers in the Academic Staff College.
