Transco to step up drawal from outside

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD SEPT. 14. As part of the efforts to save the standing kharif crop, the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh has decided to procure power from outside sources to the extent necessary.

Announcing this during a teleconference with senior officials, the Transco chairperson and managing director, Rachel Chatterjeem, said that the corporation is already importing 300 MW - 200 MW during the day and 100 MW during night - from the Power Trading Corporation to manage the shortfall. The exercise is resulting in continuous overdrawal from the southern grid and costing the Transco Rs 65 lakhs daily.

Following the steep reduction in the hydel power availability, Genco had to postpone the overhaul of thermal stations to increase generation, which is resulting in enhancing the power purchase cost to Rs 257 crores.
