Jockey's appeal rejected

BANGALORE Sept. 14. The Stewards of the Bangalore Turf Club, pursuing the Taurian case referred to them by the Mysore Stewards, have decided to withdraw jockey Y.S. Srinath's licence from September 23, 2003 till March 31, 2004 and should he apply for a licence not to consider his application till October 31, 2004 for not permitting his mount to run on its merits.

While rejecting Srinath's appeal against the decision of the Mysore Stewards suspending him till the end of the current Mysore season, the Bangalore Stewards slightly modified the Mysore order so as to permit him to ride in races and track work till September 22.

The Stewards decided to accept the explanation tendered by trainer B. Puttanna while making a note of the explanations tendered by Ravi Shankar, who deputised for B.Puttanna.

The decision means that Srinath will be out of action for almost a year. He is likely to go on appeal before the Board of Appeal.

Krishna's case: The Bangalore Stewards also rejected an appeal by P. Krishna against the decision of the Mysore Stewards, suspending him till the end of the on-going Mysore Season. While allowing P. Krishna to ride in races and track work till September 22, the Bangalore Stewards decided to withdraw his licence from September 23, 2003 till March 31, 2004 and should he apply for a licence not to consider his application till August 31, 2004 for not permitting his mount Tina's Turn to run on its merits in Mysore.

The Stewards fined trainer Inayathulla Rs.10,000 for unsatisfactory explanations tendered by him during the enquiry.

Appeal rejected: The Stewards also took up Suraj Narredu's appeal against the decision of the Mysore Stewards, suspending him from September 14 to 25 for careless riding on his mount River God at Mysore. The Bangalore Stewards rejected Suraj Narredu's appeal.

The Bangalore Turf Club has donated Rs. 25.77 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The cheque was handed over to the Chief Minister Mr. S.M. Krishna by the Chairman, Mr. Marilingaiah and members of the Managing Committee at his residence on Friday.
