Gavaskar, Bhandari in Rest of India team

BANGALORE Sept. 14. Bengal batsman Rohan Gavaskar along with Delhi seamer Amit Bhandari were named in the 14-member Rest of India squad scheduled to clash with Ranji champion Mumbai in the Irani Trophy match at Chennai from September 18 to 22. Sourav Ganguly will lead the side. The Rest of India squad was announced by BCCI secretary S.K. Nair after the selection committee met here on Sunday evening.

The board secretary also revealed that seamer Ashish Nehra is a doubtful starter for the forthcoming Test series against New Zealand. "The physio (Andrew Leipus) feels that at Nehra's current pace of recovery he may not recover in time for the Test series. He is not completely ruled out but the chances are that he will be fit in time for the one-dayers (Tri-series),'' said Mr. Nair. Nehra is undergoing a rehabilitation process after he underwent a corrective surgery on his left ankle.

The Rest of India squad: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Sanjay Bangar, Virender Sehwag, V.V.S. Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Yuvaraj Singh, Parthiv Patel (wicket-keeper), Zaheer Khan, L. Balaji, Amit Bhandari, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Murali Kartik and Rohan Gavaskar.
