Letters to the Editor
Sir, The despicable comments of the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister that, "killing Yasser Arafat is an option" (Sept. 15), reflects the approach to the Middle East crisis of the right wing Likud Party. It shows that exploring peace had never been an 'option' for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Harming Mr. Arafat can trigger a bloodbath in the region and seriously impede a negotiated settlement.
Syed Sultan Mohiddin,
Sir, The U.S. really need not be surprised at Israel deploying terror tactics against Mr. Arafat. It is just following in the footsteps of big brother, who found it justifiable to bomb the whole of Iraq just to get rid of Saddam Hussein. The Israelis are taking a cue from their strongest supporter to quell their enemy. Israel thinks, much like the U.S., along the lines of launching a pre-emptive attack against Mr. Arafat.
Rakhee Mohan & Jayshree,
