Mr. Basu made the observation while addressing a function organised by the Samity in the city's University Institute Hall on Sunday. Mr. Basu stressed the need for the reservation of seats for women in Parliament, criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party's attitude towards the issue. Mr. Basu said that his own party too had very few women members. ``It's a shame. We must have women members at all levels of the party. It is no use lecturing on it. We will have to implement it.'' Among those present was Ms. Karat, who had grabbed headlines in 1996 when she pointed out at the party's congress that the CPI(M) had inadequate representation from women.
