His name was unanimously approved at the Court meeting of the University, according to a spokesperson. Founder of the Al-Ameen Trust, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, was elected Pro-Chancellor and Nawab Ibn Saeed Khan of Chattari as Honorary Treasurer. The meeting elected Congress leader and former MP Wasim Ahmed, former Foreign Secretary Salman Haider, former Minister of State for External Affairs Salim Shervani, Mansoor Hasan, S A H Abidi and E Ahmed, MP as members of the Executive Council. Mr Wasim Ahmed, who had served in the AMU Students Union in the early eighties, also got elected to the Court of the University along with Salman Khursheed, Justice Sardar Ali Khan and Syed Shahabuddin. Mr Ahmed and Mr A M Pathan shared the highest number of 52 votes in the category of Representatives of Learned Professions, Industry and Commerce. Maulana Rabi Hasan Nadvi, President of the Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Abdul Karim Parek and Maulana Syed Mohammed Wali Rehmani were elected from representatives of the Oriental Institutions. Manzoor Alam and Ishaq Jumkhanwala were among the five elected from the Muslim organisations. The meeting was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Naseem Ahmed. Dean of the Law Faculty Ishaq Qureshi acted as Chief Election Officer. -- UNI
